Ice Ice Princess

House of Zod, Krypton 1x5, review, Superman, Jayna-Zod, Seg-El, David Taylor II, DT2ComicsChatFINALLY. We get some more backstory on Jayna Zod, who is still the most interesting character on this show, bar none. Their costumes remind me greatly of Superman’s in Red Son. Jayna made the choice as a young woman to follow her father’s teachings, and basically forsook all else (including feelings and mercy for her brother) to be worthy of the name Zod. The discipline, the snobbiness, the high expectations, the ruthlessness, the emotional detachment, the rationalization of behavior, I love it. More please.

It’s confirmed that Lyta has two boyfriends, Seg-El and Dev-Em. She loves them both. She is now officially the Joey Potter of Krypton. Also, we can see that the scenario is fast approaching where she’s going to have to choose between the two.

Once again, Seg does his thing. Three things actually, that he does every week:

  1. Scowl
  2. Brawl
  3. Pine

and that’s about it. It’s starting to remind me all the more of Smallville, because there are \S/ shields everywhere you turn.

Language! We see that profanity doesn’t change from planet to planet. But it was also good to see another group speaking in a native Kryptonian tongue instead of English.

Dilemma

House of Zod, Krypton 1x5, review, Superman, Jayna-Zod, Seg-El, David Taylor II, DT2ComicsChatThe Vexes are living up to their house name as well. Poppa Vex lays out to Blondie Vex how they are now between a rock and a hard place. If Jayna-Zod joins them, to spare Lyta, then the Voice won’t get the scapegoat he asked for to pay for the failed Rankless Initiative. If she doesn’t, and puts the Vex plans on blast to the Voice of Rao, he’s gonna ask for the Vexes to be said scapegoat. And Blondie Vex is blinded by her “love” for Seg. No it’s not, it’s just lust. It’s just someone of privilege desiring someone they shouldn’t. Nothing more.

Seg meets the Priestess of the Ice Mother of Krypton. They want to pump him for information as well. Poor Seg. Can’t catch a break. People always sticking stuff in him.🤣House of Zod, Krypton 1x5, review, Superman, Jayna-Zod, Seg-El, David Taylor II, DT2ComicsChat

AND OH SNAP POPPA VEX IS IN LOVE WITH SAGITAURI PRISONER GIRL.

Jayna lets her brother die. She passed the test on becoming a true Zod. It explains her motivation. But it’s kind of what her brother deserved. Unfortunately.

Seg discovers that the House of El has a history of rebellion. The plot thickeners.

Moment of Truth

House of Zod, Krypton 1x5, review, Superman, Jayna-Zod, Seg-El, David Taylor II, DT2ComicsChatWhy does Lyta always look like she’s holding back a sneeze and a fart at the same time? Like she drank some pickle juice or something, geebus leweebus.

Anyway, Lyta’s trial is at hand. I was really disappointed that Jayna didn’t stick to her guns. We knew that they weren’t gonna kill the young female lead of the show, but still. They spent all that time building up Jayna’s hardcore backstory only to have her let her emotions over Lyta win. But okay then. Now Jayna has to live with the fact that she’s betrayed herself, and everything her father taught her. She could live with letting her brother die, but not her daughter.

Aftermath

Lyta was prepared to die. Jayna says that Lyta is not bound to House Vex, but now Jayna is. This is gonna be interesting. Because Jayna’s mad that she caved, and she’s gonna take it out on Lyta.

Oooops sorry Poppa Vex your girlfriend is dead. Bye bye Koldar. HOLY COW he’s the one that had her killed. Blood had to be shed, so since it wasn’t Lyta’s, it was Koldar’s. Yikes. These people have ice in their veins just like outside the shield.

The Enemy of my Boyfriend

House of Zod, Krypton 1x5, review, Superman, Jayna-Zod, Seg-El, David Taylor II, DT2ComicsChatLyta and Blondie Vex have a tense exchange. Adam seeks out Lyta to find Seg. It’s a help-me-Lyta-wan-Kenobi moment. They act like Seg is dead, but we know he can’t die unless Lyta or Blondie’s already pregnant with Jor-El. So no real stakes there.

Also, did we just see some random butt crack?

House of Zod, Krypton 1x5, review, Superman, Jayna-Zod, Seg-El, David Taylor II, DT2ComicsChatAnyway Lyta lies to Boyfriend 1 to go save Boyfriend 2 in the Outlands. And everybody’s cussin’ like a sailor this episode. Lyta and Adam are too late because Not Black Zero has captured Seg again. I mean seriously, does Seg do anything else but get captured and interrogated? Oh look, Lyta to the rescue! Then Lyta gets her butt kicked, and Not Black Zero is her….son? I thought for sure that was gonna be her uncle. WHAT THE WORLD?

WHO’S HIS FATHER?

Conclusion

Next week we’ve got the HUGE “loyalties will change” thing. Looks like Adam spills the beans on the Zod-laced future and folks are gonna have to decide who lives and who dies. And Brainiac actually shows up. So the thing now is…how fast will they resolve these arcs?

Now I’ve GOT to see what happens. Can’t wait!
